How to Remove Websteroids Browser Extension from IE/Firefox/Chrome? (Websteroids Ads Removal Guide)

Last week, I downloaded Mumble, a voice chat program. I was playing World of Warcraft at the time, and needed to download Mumble on the fly, so I was insufficiently careful and downloaded an extension, Websteroids, at the same time. Websteroids highlights words in text documents which, when scrolled over, lead to advertisements. The claim of the Websteroids website is that it turns a webpage into a meteoroids game. It keeps reinstall itself. How do I remove it?

In this article, we will guide you to remove Websteroids from your computer and web browser once and for all. Read more.

What Is Websteroids?

Websteroids is a free ad-supported app developed by Creative Island Media, LLC which enables you to destroy a website by launching a meteoroids game on it. Once installed, it will add extensions, plugins or add-on to Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

It is very annoying that Websteroids displays an icon for the so-called meteoroids game on every webpage you open. Since it is ad-supported, it will display advertisements on webpages you are visiting, and it may turn text into hyperlinks to show ads while installed. Additionally, Websteroids often install itself automatically along with other free downloads without users’ permission.  Therefore, it is ranked low in acceptance by most of computer users. It is also detected as adware or PUP by anti-malware programs.

I think this adware has disabled my add/remove programs utility. It will not populate. I had this and visual bee somehow take over.

    • Ivy_Anvisoft

      Hi Davis,

If the software prevent you to uninstall it, please firstly stop the process in the task manager.

To do that, please right-click the taskbar, and then clicking Start Task Manager or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc directly to open task manager.

I downloaded something yesterday for a course that was supposed to be trustworthy but I ended up with Westeroid :(

I’ve tried deleting/uninstalling it but it just ignores me. I remove/disable the add-on (I use FireFox) but it just comes back the next time I restart the browser.

It’s very annoying that I can’t get rid of it!!

    • Andrew_Anvisoft

      Hi Teena,

It seems you have problem in uninstalling Websteroids? If so, you may try the following solution.

Go to C:ProgramDataWebsteroids. There should be a Uninstall.exe file. Please double click on it, then Websteroids will be uninstalled and the Websteroids extension on Firefox will be deleted at the same time.

If the extension is still there, you may want to reset firefox. Go to this article for tutorials:

        Thanks for your advice :)

I went to C:ProgramDataWebsteroids and double clicked on the uninstall.exe file. I saved and ran it … but nothing happened :( I restarted my laptop but that doesn’t make a different either. It’s still there when I go to Control Panel–>Uninstall programs.

I reset FireFox as you suggested. It disappeared as an add-on … but then keeps coming back.

        Very frustrating :(

        • Andrew_Anvisoft

Teena, you may try deleting the whole Websteroids folder. Then go to Control Panel > Uninstall programs and uninstall Websteroids, you may get an error message says it may have already been uninstalled. Hope this will work for you.

If it still won’t work, I need you to check if there has any application or extension developed by Conduit on your laptop and web browser. Close all your web browsers and run a full scan with Anvi Smart Defender to kill all the malicious files.

BTW, have you received any error message or notification when trying to uninstall Websteroids before? Which windows system do you have?

          • Teena in Toronto

It seems to be gone! Yippee! Thanks!!

          • Andrew_Anvisoft

            Glad to hear that!

          • Teena in Toronto

            It’s back :(

And I can’t find it on my hard drive.

So I need deleting it as an “Add-on” and it keeps coming back :(

          • Andrew_Anvisoft

Did you install any application recently? It may be installed under other name. Please look through the program list and uninstall any unwanted or unknown program. Then remove browser extensions with the Slim Toolbar feature in Cloud System Booster or reset Firefox.

Please be careful when you are downloading or install any program in case any unexpected app installed without your knowledge.

I uninstalled WebConnect from my computer (or so I thought), but when I opened Chrome again, it was still going. It’s not showing up in my extensions or on task manager. What should I do?

    • Ivy_Anvisoft

Some malicious files related to web connect may run in background, please run a full scan with your antivirus program to eliminate the possible malicious files.
